First of all,
an e-mail came from Buddy Scalera. You may remember him
from writing some issues of Deadpool for Marvel and Decoy
for Penny-Farthing Press. He has also been working behind
the scenes, putting together publishing packages and the
CD-ROM series "Visual Reference For Comic Artists."
He's had a twisted sense of humor, but this project, done
in conjunction with a variety of artists, seems more prescient,
sadly, than satirical.
7 Days To
Fame is a 3-issue mini-series coming from After Hours
Press, the imprint that Scalera co-founded with Darren Sanchez
and Chris Eliopoulos. The story covers a reality television
show in which contestants appear for six days to discuss
the ups and downs of their lives. On the seventh day, they
kill themselves "...in the most creative way possible,"
according to Scalera.
“Reality
television is an amazing cultural phenomenon,” adds
Scalera, who graduated college with a degree in Mass Media
Communications. “Some people will do anything to be
on television.”
Thankfully, they
won't do anything to write comics. Yet...
On the
flip side, we got a notice from Creative Light Entertainment
that they have brought together stars from several reality
television series to be in a new horror film, The Scorned.
Written by Scott Zakarin, Rob Cesternino (from Survivor:
Amazon and All-Stars) and Eric Mittleman, the
film features many of those reality stars that have joined
The Fishbowl,
including Ethan Zohn (Survivor: Africa), Bob Guinan
(The Bachelor), Jenna Morasca (Survivor: Amazon)
and Jonny Fair Play (Survivor: Pearl Islands -- and
my bet for the killer and/or first killed).
So reality shows
become comics and horror films. In yet another meta-twist,
Creative Light and E! Entertainment Television will be teaming
up to make the reality series turned horror film back into
a reality series. My head hurts.
Yes, the trials
and triumphs of making The Scorned will be charted
by Kill Reality, in which the whole cast will have
no off-screen time. Will there still be sex and violence
when the movie cameras turn off and the television cameras
turn on? And will they invite Fanboy Planet to hide in the
closet and watch?
Kill
Reality debuts on E! on July 25th at 10 p.m. PST. The
Scorned will debut on E! in September, with a follow-up
"R" rated DVD release in October. 7 Days To
Fame hits the stands in September 2005.
