That's
Not How I Imagined It From The Title...
Though
I'm likely to get flack at home, this announcement from
Terminal Press made me laugh and shake my head so much it
had to be run.
Sometimes
a project looks so wrong it has to be right. When you take
a classic adult film property -- and whether some like it
or not, there are a few such titles and this qualifies --
you have to wonder how to update it and speak to today's
audience. In particular, Debbie Does Dallas has had numerous
sequels, a couple of which may have had plots, a stage musical
adaptation and at least one previous comic book series.
So how do you make it fresh?
Zombies.
Zombies make everything fresh.
And
if any of you jerks steal my Pirates vs. Zombies vs. Ninjas
vs. Monkeys idea, I'm suing.
Anyway,
back to commentary: Ric Remender is mining similar territory
with Xxxombies, but this has name recognition. This even
has at least good cover art. While pornography and flesh-eating
undead don't particularly float my boat, you might be the
guy at home thinking "Debbie Does Dallas needed to
be post-apocalyptic." You know who you are, Jordan
Rosa.
The
only thing really missing here is preview art beyond the
cover. Maybe that will be forthcoming, and maybe it will
be suitable to run here. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime,
imagine what they'll do with titles like Deep Throat ("This
zombie wants to swallow it all"), Candy Stripers (an
alien race invades Earth in search of sugar and ...sugar...)
and Tell Them Johnny Wadd Was Here (John Holmes comes back
as a zombie...okay, I'm really out of ideas...)

From
Terminal Press:
Terminal Press in association with Arrow Productions will
debut, “Debbie Does Dallas,” at the 2008 Adult
Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada this January. The
Limited Edition Comic release will coincide with the 30th
Anniversary of the classic adult movie.
In the book, Debbie finds
herself stranded and under the threat of nuclear decimation
in the days leading up to the apocalypse. As one of very
few survivors left, she will battle her way through hordes
of the living dead, aided only by an abandoned military
exoskeleton and the will to make it out of Dallas, Texas
alive.
“The
creative team was given the opportunity to actually get
creative with this title, which isn’t the norm when
you’re working on a license” says writer and
Terminal Press founder Brian Ferrara. “They just let
us go crazy and I think that paid off. It’s not what
people are going to be expecting”
“When
I started talking to Terminal Press about licensing our
Icons for comic books we agreed to do something completely
different and insane. After reading the script and seeing
the artwork this book is totally amazing! The only hang
up is if we were to ever shoot this project we are looking
at over a $100 million dollar budget. However, the coolest
thing about comic books is that you can draw anything you
could ever imagine.” said Arrow's Marketing Director
Robert Interlandi.
“Debbie
Does Dallas” is illustrated by Russ Manning nominee
Rolo Ledesma, written by Brian Ferrara, with Colors by Narek
Gevorgian and Color Separation by Joe Frazzetta and Keith
McCleary.
This
will be the first of Terminal Press’s collaborations
with Arrow Productions. Future titles will feature reinterpretations
of classics like “Deep Throat,” “Candy
Stripers,” “Tell Them Johnny Wadd Was Here”
and several others.

booth at the 2008 Adult Entertainment Expo or terminalpress.com
